Greetings from the Colorado Springs (CO) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated. Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to browse our website, follow us on social media and learn about our community service programs, signature fundraisers and ways you can support and partner with us.

Our chapter, the Colorado Springs (CO) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated just celebrated seven (7) years as a Chapter in the Pikes Peak Region. On May 2, 2015 thirty-two (32) dynamic women chartered this phenomenal organization. Our beloved organizer Edna C. Daniels, who passed on November 17, 2019, worked tirelessly to establish our chapter and we will miss her encouragement and strength. We will continue to honor her legacy and have established a scholarship, the Edna C. Daniel Scholarship, which will support youth in the community.

The Links, Incorporated founded in 1946 is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The international membership consists of nearly 15,000 professional women of color in 288 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom. The Links, Incorporated is built on the tenants of service and friendship and our organization contributes more than 1 million hours of community service annually.

Our chapter is proud of its ongoing partnership with Harrison School District Two, where we mentor 6-8th grade young ladies at Carmel Community School. Our signature program is called “Pearls of Wisdom” and we focus on five key initiatives of the organization to impact the lives of these young ladies. Our 5 Facets are: Services to Youth, the Arts, Health and Human Services, National Trends and Services and International Trends and Services. We are also involved in many community outreach events throughout the Pikes Peak region and we are looking to expand our reach in the greater Colorado Springs community.

Our chapter has continued to serve our community despite the challenges the Pandemic brought. We continue to focus on delivering impactful and transformational community programs. We are proud of our past accomplishments and are looking forward to opportunities to serve our communities in the future.

Starting a Link's Chapter in Colorado Springs, CO was a dream that began with Edna C. Daniels, our organizer.  On Mothers Day, May 15, 2013 she had a conversation with her friend, Ms. Danielle Summerville. As it turns out, Ms. Summerville had recently spoken with Ms. Regina Baker, a member of The Links, Incorporated, about her desire to be a part of this organization. Upon learning of this desire, Ms. Baker suggested that Ms. Summerville speak with Ms. Daniels. When Ms. Daniels and Ms. Summerville spoke, they quickly realized that they shared a common goal.  This conversation compelled Ms. Daniels to reach out to her long-time friend, Ms. Constance Fitzpatrick Smith who was now the Western Area Director of The Links, Incorporated.

After Ms. Daniel's conversation with the Western Area Director, knowing that tenacity, commitment and excellence would be key to chartering a chapter; she enlisted the support of two dynamic and visionary women in the community.  She asked Ms. Summerville and Ms. Rhonda L. Arrington - who also happened to be friends - to work closely with her to help make this dream a reality. Together, these three women, under the leadership of Ms. Sandra Dorsey Malone, Chapter Establishment Chair, and Ms. Sherry L. Jackson, Denver (CO) Chapter, worked diligently for over a six-month period to generate interest in forming a chapter in the community. They hosted several information sessions and through these meetings were able to attract ladies who also have an abiding passion for and steadfast focus on civic engagement and community service!  The dream of one had become the dream of many!

Edna C. Daniels Scholarship

In Loving Memory........

Edna Daniels’ Story (1934-2019)

Edna Daniels would say that her ambition to serve others began early in life through an upbringing that taught her to follow the golden rule: treat each person as you would like to be treated. And she would have to say that this energy and empathy was deepened after her own personal journey through the devastating effects of sickle cell anemia and subsequent loss of her daughter Yolanda Carol Daniels. Described as “a nurse with a gift so natural that she herself was unaware of its influence and power,” throughout her career Edna Daniels has consistently practiced her craft to the benefit of others while elevating the nursing profession, both in the hospital and in the community.

In her role as Care Manager of the Mother-Baby Unit at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Edna reached beyond her job description to co-author twelve Clinical Pathways, important new tools that today guide the standards of care for every aspect of the birthing experience. Each has been registered with the Library of Congress. The use of her Caesarean Section Clinical Path has resulted in mothers recovering faster, requiring fewer narcotics, and being ready to go home sooner. The Pathway nearest to Edna’s heart, however, is the one she created to address postpartum depression following the tragic drowning of five children by a Texas mother suffering from severe postpartum depression. A colleague wrote, “[We] now have a way to assess, identify, and educate our patients at risk for Postpartum Depression. …This has given us the potential of not only improving lives but saving them.” Expanding the impact, a National insurance company has recommended her material on this topic to all its physicians.
